SIRFER is a University of Utah facility for researchers to analyze the stable isotope ratio composition of organic, inorganic, and atmopheric molecules and tissues. The first priority is for Ehleringer Lab projects, but instrument time is available for other on-campus and off-campus users interested in stable isotope analyses. For researchers outside the University of Utah, please click here to access price information for off-campus academic users and for commercial users.

One function of SIRFER is to promote isotope research at different universities. We have accomplished this through training courses and through promoting development and expansion of isotope ratio mass spectrometry instrumentation at different universities across the United States. When such facilities are not easily accessible to members of the university community, we will analyze biological, inorganic, and atmospheric samples for interested parties outside the University of Utah. If you are interested in this service, we provide an estimate of the university associated off-campus cost to get a sample analyzed at SIRFER. We will bill your university for the work after all of it is completed. Most universities typically pay using a purchase order.

For non-university investigations (e.g., analysis for commercial private parties and governmental agencies), commercial prices are also available.
